| Installing Flood Lighting of the Clocktower. |
 |
The TDA collaborated with the RSA and NCC to achieve the dramatic flood lighting of the iconic War Memorial Clocktower.
In 2000 several TDA committee members regretted that the Clock Tower "disappeared into the night". Permission was sought from the Napier City Council and the Taradale RSA to investigate the possible lighting of the Tower. A working party was set up and joined by David Prebensen for his engineering expertise and long association with the clock. The Rotary Clubs of Taradale and Greenmeadows came on board and on the 9th October 2002 the lights were switched on and the Soldiers Memorial Clock Tower had been "rescued from the night".

One of the aims of the Association is to give residents of Taradale a voice. To this end we arrange public meetings and speakers on topical local issues.
Well attended meetings recently have included:
Taradale Redevelopment.
Supermarket Expansion and Beatons' vision for Taradale.
Application for a liquor license in the Taradale shopping centre.

| Taradale Town Centre Redevelopment |
|
|
The $3.7 million Taradale Town Centre redevelopment is due to start in February 2010.
The TDA has been involved with this project since it was first mooted five years ago, including having members on the Stakeholders Group.
Submissions have been made at every opportunity and public meetings arranged.
It will be good to see it in action soon.

The need for Taradale to be represented in the national range of Heritage Trail booklets had been recognised for some time.
In 2005 the TDA instigated the research and writing of a local trail, firstly with direction from the Hawke's Bay Regional Council and later the Napier Heritage Trails Working Party in association with the Art Deco Trust.
Based on Irene Lister's suggestions places of interest were researched and collated into a booklet form by Association members.
Funding and sponsorship was applied for and granted by local organisations and trusts.
This easy to follow, informative trail of sites reflecting Taradale's history is available to purchase at Paper Plus, Taradale or the Art Deco Shop, Napier, at a cost of $1.50.

Future Projects
|
Some of the subjects presently being considered by the committee are:
* Digitising the historic photo archive. It is intended to digitize the collection and make it available on the library computer system for easy reference. It is hoped that this will be done during 2010.
* Developing an Art Trail around Taradale.
* Being involved in celebrating the 125th anniversary of the founding of Taradale.
* Working in conjunction with Napier City Council, to develop local walkways, particularly the access to Sugar Loaf from the Terraces.

The Association is open to ideas from all residents of Taradale. We welcome suggestions for future projects.
